So much chaos reigned at Ja Rule’s luxury music festival (with half-finished construction, bands pulling out, and more) that as of April 28, it’s been officially postponed. Here’s everything you need to know about Fyre Festival, where ticket prices started at $1,000 and went up to $12,000!
Here are five things to know about Fyre Festival, which was meant to take place from April 28-30 and May 5-7 in the Exumas.
1. It’s even pricier than Coachella, but for good reason.
Weekend ticket prices range from $1,000 to $12,000, and ticket prices include a roundtrip flight to the island on a “custom, VIP configured Boeing 737” from Miami, FL, according to the official site, . Guests are put up in “modern, eco-friendly, geodesic domes,” but of course you have the option to drop even more cash for housing elsewhere on the island or neighboring private islands.
2. Models want you to think the festival is cool and worth it.
It’s backed by Bella Hadid (and Ja Rule), and has been promoted by Alessandra Ambrosio, Hailey Baldwin, Emily Ratajkowski, and more.
3. The central theme of the festival turned out to be “Mass chaos.”
When ticket-holders arrived on April 27, there were immediate signs of trouble. The campsite appeared to be unfinished, and Blink-182 canceled their headlining set, saying they doubted they could deliver “the quality of performances we always give fans.” Then planes from Miami were grounded because the island was “over capacity,” as airline representatives reportedly told passengers (via Billboard.) Yikes.
4. This year’s lineup includes Major Lazer, Blink 182, Migos and Lil Yachty.
Well, it did, until the whole thing was postponed.
5. …The whole thing was postponed.
“Due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances, Fyre Festival has been fully postponed,” the official account tweeted on April 28. After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could…at this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get all travelers home safely.” Basically, United Airlines was like, “We’ve got the biggest PR disaster of 2017 on our hands,” and Fyre was like, “Hold my drink.”
