Competition just got tougher for Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. The film, that also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, is giving us goosebumps for two major reasons. First for featuring the dwarf version of SRK and second – his collaboration with Aanand L Rai. It is essential for the actor to rake in the huge moolah and impress the critics simultaneously as his last few releases didn’t have the kind of impact it used to have. While Raees still had a successful run at the box office, we know what a disaster Jab Harry Met Sejal was really. Not that his fan following has seen any downward trend but the fact that his movies don’t dominate the box office collections anymore is a matter to worry.

Coming to Zero, the movie is beyond what it looks like. It isn’t any ordinary movie of an actor with certain limitations falling for an actress. The subject is far deeper or else Shah Rukh wouldn’t have invested so many months toiling hard for it. And a subject as interesting as it deserves a free run at the box office; so that its earnings justify the cost that was put in to make it in the first place. But with a good number of domestic and international movies clashing at the same time as Zero, its chances to have a dream run are almost next to none now or should we say nil. Earlier, the movie was expected to clash with Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan’s Kedarnath. However, the clash was averted after Kedarnath makers pre-poned its release by a month. But that was just the beginning we guess.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero will now clash with DC’s Aquaman and James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel. Do we really need to say how fans are eagerly waiting for DC to present Aquaman, especially after its mind-boggling trailer that was released over the weekend? Or do we need to elaborate what a great filmmaker James Cameron is – someone who gave us Titanic and Avatar? It’s an undeniable fact that the audiences will be divided between three great movies that will hit the screens on the same day. The ones who love Shah Rukh will book its first-day first show tickets. But if the movie fails to garner a good word-of-mouth (which we bet won’t be the scenario), there are chances that Aquaman and Alita will score a century individually in this innings.

And if you thought three was company, in this case, there are a few more hurdles that will create chaos on December 21. Anupam Kher’s The Accidental Prime Minister and Riteish Deshmukh’s Marathi movie, Mauli, too will release on the same day, making the competition stiffer! Okay, hold on for we aren’t done yet. Bumblebee, a movie in the Transformers series, too, is planning to release on December 21. Also, let’s not forget that Ranveer Singh’s Simmba is slated to release within a week on December 29.

So SRK’s Zero will now clash with not one, not two but five movies and that’s a record in itself. All we care about is Shah Rukh Khan and we pray that Zero outshines others in all categories to emerge victorious.
