Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU), most ambitious project, Avengers: Infinity War is just a week away from its release and the enthusiasm of its fans is at its peak. While many theories have evolved regarding the death of various superheroes in the movie, fans are still busy speculating and wondering if their favourite superhero will survive the might Thanos. The biggest crossover event in the history of cinema deserves all the necessary attention and the curiosity around it should not die. While many fear that Iron Man will breathe his last in this film, especially after Thanos says, ‘I hope they remember you,’ there are high chances that Doctor Strange has the similar fate sealed for him. No, it’s not just us making assumptions, it is the actor himself who has dropped a subtle hint about the same.
Doctor Strange opened to great reviews in 2016 and many critics praised its trippy visuals and unusual take on the genre. Yet, the makers, till date, have never made any official announcement about a sequel. Other superhero films, released in previous years, like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy, already have sequels in the making and even their release dates are locked in – but not Doctor Strange. The shocking point is that Black Panther, that released in February this year, too, has a sequel in pipeline already but same is not the case with Doctor Strange.
When Benedict Cumberbatch was asked for a response to the same, his statement sort of cleared some air regarding his death in Avengers: Infinity War. “I know the latest is that I might not make it out of this film alive,” Cumberbatch told RadioTimes.com in a new video interview. “It’s only [written at] the end of the first film, ‘Doctor Strange will be back.’ I have been back, in Thor: Ragnarok, and obviously in [Avengers: Infinity War]. So there’s nothing to say, either contractually or otherwise, that he’s coming back again. I haven’t seen the film. so God knows, that might be it,” he added. They might have just teased me into a London fan-fest because, ‘Oh look, you’re in a bit of the film.’ And that might be all of it.” That’s a major blow for all the Sherlock actor’s fans here. Doctor Strange, as a character, deserved a sequel and come on, we love to see Benedict no matter what. The more we see, the less it is for us when it comes to Cumberbatch.
Well, given the recent developments, we are sad to admit that we will miss him. We sure do hope that the above scenario is not true.
