Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi raced ahead of Kapoor & Sons. But SRK-Alia’s jodi failed to beat Shahid-Alia’s Udta Punjab at the box office…
Alia Bhatt can rejoice and Shah Rukh Khan can heave a sigh of relief coz Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi is proving to be a hit. Made at a decent budget, this “Jug” of life film is winning the audience. Alia who spoke to BollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY yesterday insisted on how box office numbers matter not just because it is about money, but it also shows us how the audience is reacting to the movie. Alia seemed ecstatic as she doled out three very different films this year and looks like the actress will have quite a few nominations at the award functions.

The box office figures of Dear Zindagi have only showed growth. While the film managed to rake in Rs 8.75 crores on Friday, Saturday saw a great hike. SRK-Alia’s film earned Rs 11. 25 crores on Saturday and showed a growth of almost thirty percent a day after the film’s release. The movie already earned about Rs 20 crores in Indian market. Dear Zindagi beats Alia’s this year’s first release Kapoor & Sons and this despite having fewer screens. While Kapoor & Sons released in 1500 screens, Dear Zindagi had a mere 1200 screens.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the Sunday figures and confirmed that the film managed to grow on Sunday further. The movie has made Rs 12.5 crores on Sunday. That sums up the first weekend collections of Dear Zindagi to Rs 32.50 crores in India alone.
While Dharma’s latest venture has already earned an estimated Rs 32 crores including the overseas collections. The film made a business of approximately Rs 12 crores abroad. SRK’s this film made a business of $1.4 million in five days on 146 screens in the US and about $1.2 million in the Gulf States, another $225,000 in UK and with 26 screens in Australia the film raked $136,000.
Shah Rukh Khan‘s Fan despite its dismal performance had a great opening weekend collection of Rs 52.35 crores in India. Alia’s earlier films – Udta Punjab with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan made Rs 33.8 crores on it’s opening weekend while Kapoor & Sons with Sidharth Malhotra made Rs 26.35 crores on its first weekend. Of course we know that Dear Zindagi raced ahead of Kapoor & Sons, but SRK-Alia’s jodi failed to beat Shahid-Alia‘s Udta Punjab at the box office.
