After facing quite a few hurdles in the production process, Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu is finally hitting the screens this Friday! The anticipation around the movie has been high thanks to its socially relevant plot of privatisation of electricity and director Shree Narayan Singh who also helmed a similar premise in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Now, will his newest meet the same fate and success as that of his last? Only, time will tell but before that, we sat with the sat with the entire cast of Batti Gul Meter Chalu and it was a crackling rendezvous.
The anxious trio heaped praise about the subject and rightly so, considering it promises to be a content-driven film around electricity theft, power outages, inflated electricity bills and faulty meters that cripple the common man in India. Speaking about the same, Shahid seemed confident and maintained that it’s a story that needs to be told. In fact, while delving deeper he also revealed that it was actually wife Mira who read the script first and later, convinced him to take the project. He said, “She was the first one who read the script because I was shooting, and she really liked the content, felt it was relevant. She told me to address it seriously. And her conviction in it was definitely something that contributed to me reading it seriously and today here we are! She was the first person to bring it to my notice that this is an issue that should be made into the movie because it matters.”
When further probed about Mira having a say in all his scripts, Shahid refuted and said, “No, she has other things to do. She is not with me 24*7 but you know how to people are ho share a life—you discuss things, you share about things. This was one of those things that just happened. But if there is something I’m excited about, I definitely share it with her.”
