The scathing lyrics in Little Mix’s ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ definitely seem to be about Perrie Edwards’ ex, Zayn Malik. But the singer’s ex, Perrie Edwards, and her bandmates didn’t even give him a warning before releasing the song — and they’re perfectly okay with that!
Little Mix won’t officially confirm that “Shout Out To My Ex” is about Perrie Edwards’ breakup from Zayn Malik, 23, but it’s not really that hard to figure out, right?! But Perrie herself confirmed that she didn’t tell her ex about the lyrics before going public about the song, and her bandmates stood by that decision.
“We don’t think he deserves a warning!” Jesy Nelson told The Sun. “He’ll just have to wait and see.” Meanwhile, Jade Thirlwall also explained that, regardless if Zayn is the subject, the new track about “moving on” is one that “loads of people can relate to.”
As we all know, Zayn and Perrie ended their nearly four-year romance and engagement in 2015, and just a few months later, he moved on with Gigi Hadid, 21, who he’s still dating to this day. In “Shout Out To My Ex,” the British girl group sings about a a relationship with a tattoed guy that “took four long years to call it quits.” There’s also a lyric about the guy in question being “in love with some other chick,” and these three clues are pretty much all we need to assume it’s about the former One Direction singer.
The ladies will officially debut the song with a live performance on The X-Factor Oct. 16, and we’re totally dying to hear how these lyrics sound to music!
