Padmavati is set to hit screens on December 1
The makers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the magnum opus gets one of the biggest releases across the globe. Speaking of the domestic market, the historical drama has already beaten Baahubali 2 and Dangal to become the biggest release till date. Made on a whopping budget of Rs 180 crore, Padmavati will hit 4500 screens in the country, when it releases on December 1. Talking about its international release, Padmavati will be exclusively distributed by well-known Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures, in the overseas circuits.
Talking about the association with Paramount, Ajit Andhare, Chief Operating Officer, Viacom Motion Pictures, told Mid-day, “Paramount and Viacom have a long-standing relationship. This story is universal. Historical films have the power to mesmerise people, whether or not the audience is familiar with the culture. This is also the reason behind the mammoth success of Game Of Thrones. Also, Deepika Padukone’s global appeal, given that she starred in XXX: Return Of Xander Cage, is another bonus.” Padmavati is expected to hit screens in around 150 countries, making it one of the widest Bollywood release ever.
Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor-starrer Padmavati will be released in the markets of USA, UK, Fiji, Singapore, Malaysia and Middle East. Since these circuits have a good amount of Indian population, a decent response to the historical drama is expected. As soon as the film receives a good response in the markets with the positive word-of-mouth and social media, the makers might plan to release the film in China. And we have already witnessed how big the Chinese market is for films. The phenomenal success of Dangal in the country is a feat waiting to be repeated.
